Former Pike County Substitute Teacher Sentenced in Student Rape Case
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A former substitute teacher for Pike County Schools has been sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to third-degree rape involving a 15-year-old student.
Hunter Plymale, 28, was sentenced Wednesday in Pike Circuit Court. He pleaded guilty to the charge in June.
The case began in 2022 when the teenage student reported being sexually assaulted by Plymale on an isolated road in the Sidney community. Plymale had worked as a substitute teacher at multiple schools in the district and was assigned to Belfry Elementary School at the time.
Court proceedings continued for several years after Plymale withdrew an earlier guilty plea and obtained different legal representation.
Pike County Schools terminated Plymale after the allegations were reported. Following the sentencing hearing, he was lodged in the Pike County Detention Center and placed on the sex-offender registry.
